It’s Hump Day! How is everyone’s week so far? Ready for the weekend? Me too! It’s the Billfish Invitational at Bohicket Marina starting tomorrow, and although I am not fishing in it (insert sad face here), John will be doing so aboard the Rascal, so I will be cheering them on from the docks!
Speaking of fishing – did you know that the cobia are running right now? They prefer warmer waters, sticking around the Florida areas during winter, and making their way “north” to us sometime in mid-April. I, personally, had never cobia fished before this spring/summer, but had heard it is a lot of fun. Well, true to our nature, John and I had to get out and try. Our first attempt, with his dad and a handful of pals, took place out of Georgetown. We headed out through the jetties on Memorial Day to see what we could catch. As it turns out, we are all pros at catching bait fish and other guys too little to keep, but we fished in vain for cobia.
Our second “attempt” was over the weekend, and we honestly didn’t even make it to fish. Two things happened. First – it rained Saturday. And by “rained,” I mean we were on the boat watching a monsoon head towards us. Between our boat and the landing. No choice but to head into it. So fun!
Second – a small craft advisory was issued on Sunday. And, let me tell you, it was rough on the water, even in the smaller creeks around the area. Never the less, we braved the winds and headed to a little spot for some beach-sitting and beer-drinking. Not too shabby, I’d say! But, alas… No cobia.
Whooohoooo! Get them next time! Thanks for sharing…..
We will certainly try!
You & John will have to come down with Elliott this summer and learn how to fish for them. Like your Blog … You need to put a Tail Stalker Charters blurb on your next blog. http://tailstalkercharters.com/index.html
We would love to! I am already craving some more cobia… I will be in touch soon about Tail Stalker Charters. Thanks for reading!
