If you’ve been following along on social media you may have noticed that I’ve recently been promoting something called the Sportsman’s Box. I’ve been receiving one monthly since early summer, and recently was lucky enough to become a member of the Sportsman’s Box Field Operative Team! I am super excited to be working with such a great company and so many amazing other field ops in the outdoor industry.
So, what exactly is Sportsman’s Box?
In case you haven’t heard of the company, here’s a quick rundown: Each month you pay a flat fee (choosing a plan based on your budget), and you receive a box full of goodies on your porch or in your mailbox. It’s like a mini Christmas every month! Each box is tailored to the time of year – fishing gear in the summer, hunting gear in the fall, and it gets more detailed from there as we approach each season: deer, duck, dove, turkey, coyote – you name it. It’s a great concept because you could get something you’ve been wanting to try out, but might not have purchased for yourself, or you may be turned on to a new brand / product that you previously hadn’t heard of. That’s half the fun – each month brings a new surprise, and you never know what you might get.
What’s even more exciting is that they’re about to launch an all-new Sportswoman’s Box, tailored for ladies in (or looking to get into) the outdoor world. I am PUMPED. And, I’ll be doing an interview with the company’s founder, Adam Whitehead, in a few weeks! So be sure to stay tuned.
Well…. What was in the August box? I thought you’d never ask! 🙂 Since we’re getting ready for dove and deer seasons around here, the this box could not have come at a more perfect time.
First up: A brand-spankin’ new Thermacell (!!) and a Thermacell Tree Hanger. I’ve had my current Thermacell probably since I graduated from college, and it has been on the blink since turkey season. I’ve been too stubborn to get a new one, and opening the August box literally made me jump up and down with excitement. I use these things year round – as you’ve seen here, here, here and here (and probably 30 more posts beyond those), and I will immediately put this baby into my gear pack. The Tree Hanger is an added plus: now my Thermacell won’t be hanging off the side of my climber where I can oh-so-easily knock into it with a loud clang or knock it off completely and it tumbles into the brush below. Not. A. Fun. Situation.
Up next: a Guardian Hunting Tag Holder. It might seem small, but as someone who frequently leaves my hunting license & tags in places like the front pocket of my waders (and then I take a tumble into the duck pond), this is something I can definitely use. Actually, its safe to say I never knew how badly I needed one of these until it arrived. Hooray!
This month also brought a pack of ScentLok field wipes. Scent control is a big part of outsmarting the game you’re chasing, and I know I’ve forgotten to spray down before leaving the house. I’ll keep these in my hunting pack all season. Bonus: you can use them as dryer sheets!
Last, but certainly not least: my “mystery item” was a roll of Gear Aid Tenacious Tape. Ohhmahhgahh YES. Have you ever tried to fix a tear in your dove stool with duct tape, and then sit on said dove stool in 100* heat for an afternoon in the field? How about the backrest of a climber that you lean against all morning as the temperature rises from a breezy 85* to a balmy 95* by 10 am? No? Two words: MELTY & STICKY. Tenacious Tape is “an all-purpose, weatherproof repair tape that fixes rips, holes and gashes in almost all of your outdoor gear.” They put it so well, I couldn’t come up with any better way to describe it.
Y’all, this month was amazing. I’ve got a ton of awesome stuff lined up over the next few weeks and months, and top-notch gear will go a long way.
I’ll be bringing you the contents of each month’s Sportman’s Box as we head into fall and our seasons get underway. But! Don’t just live vicariously through my excitement here at Bright Side Outdoors – sign up for your very own! After all… My Thermacell won’t keep those mosquitos off of you unless you’re in the field with me!
Oh heck, come on out in the field with me. We’ll have lots of fun! See you in September, Sportsman’s Box!
