Our dove season opened Labor Day weekend, and I felt excited to take my new Remington V3 Field Sport for a spin in the field on South Carolina’s dove opener. While I typically shoot a 20 gauge over-under for dove, I knew the Remington V3 would be a great gun for this season. Because the lightweight V3 uses Remington’s gas-operated system to reduce recoil, I wasn’t at all concerned about shooting a heavier gauge gun for higher volume shooting.

A Dove Hunting First
Its official. I have introduced my tiniest hunting buddy to the great outdoors. Taylor went on her first dove hunt at just 10 months old, and had the BEST time. I made sure to keep her in the shade, equipped with ear and eye protection, and lots of toys to entertain her.
Continue readingTips for Taking Kids Hunting
For parents and veteran hunters alike, taking kids hunting can be one of the most rewarding experiences in outdoor life. For many, growing up learning to hunt was as natural as learning to tie their shoes or ride a bike. For others, the option to go hunting as a kid (for any number of reasons) simply didn’t exist. But, when many of those same youngsters were exposed to hunting as adults, they fell in love with the sport and became hooked for life.

When it comes to planning a hunt, the options are endless. Some hunts require little more than a loose timeline, a packed lunch, and a loaded gun, but others can be much more daunting, even for an experienced hunter. A turkey hunt one county over is a far cry from stalking elk through the Rockies, but if you’ve never done either, you’re still starting from square one.
That’s where hunting guides and hunting outfitters come in – someone else with the knowledge and skill to help close the gap between you and the game you chase.
But, don’t be fooled – the two titles are not mutually exclusive.
Sportsman’s Box: August
If you’ve been following along on social media you may have noticed that I’ve recently been promoting something called the Sportsman’s Box. I’ve been receiving one monthly since early summer, and recently was lucky enough to become a member of the Sportsman’s Box Field Operative Team! I am super excited to be working with such a great company and so many amazing other field ops in the outdoor industry.
So, what exactly is Sportsman’s Box?
dove season prep with the WON
Can you believe it’s already fall? I feel like I was just writing my paddle board fishing article, reminiscing of 100* days on the water, and all of a sudden we’re staring down the barrel of dove season. Craziness! I know I owe y’all more than a few posts (Scotland, current and upcoming dove hunts, and an all new Portfolio page I’ve been working on), but I have another WON article on deck for you today!

weekend recap: kicking off dove season
It’s the weekend, friends! Who’s excited? This cooler weather has definitely given me a boost to want to get back in the woods/ out in the field. Last weekend, I did exactly that – my first Estherville dove hunt of the season!
Argentina 2015
Happy Friday, friends! I am grateful for this short week, what about you? Mine was extra short, as I was off of work Monday as well… That’s the day we arrived back home from another Argentina Dove Hunting adventure! I returned to the same lodge as before (and before that), returning this time with not only my dad, but my Mr. and father-in-law as well. We had 3 other guys join the 4 of us, and it really made for a fantastic group. I probably heard more “guy trip” talk than I should have, but they kept me in stitches the whole time.
aaand I’m back
Or perhaps I just had a really good, lucky day. I shot doves with my dad last Wednesday, and went into the field a little skeptical after my last experience in this field…
back & forth – weekend recap continued
As I mentioned, we did a little bit of dove hunting and a little bit of fishing over last weekend. The constantly changing weather made it a little difficult to plan ahead for our activities, so we basically flew by the seat of our pants. Start to see a few doves come into the field? Let’s get out there and sit. No doves flying? Let’s try our luck on the pond. Procrastinating getting in the car to drive back to Charleston? Let’s get back in that dove field for a little while! That is truly how our day went.
