Can you believe duck season is almost over? Like, this. weekend. I always have this tug of emotion in the last week or two – I am, on one hand, pretty tired from traveling every weekend plus every Tuesday/Wednesday and look forward to actually sleeping in on a Saturday rather than hitting snooze at 5 am. I know, I know… There are worse problems to have! On the other hand, I know that this time next week, I will be bored, wondering when I will get to hunt again and wondering why I ever even remotely wanted duck season to come to a close even a little bit.

weekend recap: #tbt to the last of deer season
I know… It seems like I let deer season go out with a fizzle, and not with a bang. I did do a fair amount of hunting after the big doe I shot, and had my sights set on ending the season with a really nice buck. My efforts proved to be futile, though, as I saw only does on the remainder of my hunts. Plus, nothing too exciting happened on them, so taking photos/recapping each hunt wasn’t a big priority. You’d have been quite bored, I am sure.
weekend recap: trophies
Ugh. The weather. Is anyone else over this rain? I know I am! If it’s going to rain in January, I think it should just go ahead and snow. Anyone with me on that? Thankfully, we had good weather over the weekend to do a little duck hunting in Georgetown. We didn’t anticipate a crazy, barrel burner of a hunt, but knew there were some ducks on the pond and knew it would be worth a try. At the very least, it was shaping up to be a beautiful day.
just before the freeze
Happy weekend, friends! I hope everyone is staying warm during these chilly, chilly days… Brrr! There’s something unsettling about needing to wear the same fleece-lined leggings to work that I typically wear when I am duck hunting. I know, I know… If I am not hunting, I am a complete wimp about cold weather. But 18* yesterday was cold for the Lowcountry!
end of the year hunt
Hi Friends! Happy Tuesday… I hope everyone is getting back into the swing of things with ease. I know I am still somewhat recovering from the holiday season, but I am ready to get my nose back to the grindstone.
holiday hunting
Happy New Years Eve-Eve, friends! I just want to start by saying THANK YOU so much for the sweet messages I got yesterday after my post about my Big Guy. Everyone is so kind, and I really felt the love. As I said, it will be tough, but my memories of him will always bring a smile to my face.
keeping the season going…
Happy Friday! Has this been an extra busy week for anyone else? I guess it’s the pre-Christmas craziness, huh? Well, I was lucky enough to get in a duck hunt Wednesday morning, so that definitely was a plus. It wasn’t a crazy hunt or anything – starting off a little slow but we moved to another blind around 8:30 & finished strong – but we limited out with ring necks, mallards, and a blue bill. Plus, I had 2 GoPros going pretty much the entire time so I got some great shots to add to this seasons video. Woohoo! Below are some still-frames from a few of the videos. It’s weird watching yourself hunt… [i.e. I have a terrible gun mount sometimes when I get flustered in the heat of the moment… No wonder my jaw bone is sore after some hunts!]. Enjoy!
weekend recap: catching up
Hi friends! I hope everyone had a happy happy Turkey Day & ate as much delicious food as we did… And had even more turkey sandwiches with the leftovers, naturally… Delish!
weekend recap: fired up
Hi, friends! I hope everyone’s week has gotten off to a good start… Is anyone else already ready for Friday? Like more than usual? I know I am. Why, you ask? This past weekend was filled with activity and quite a bit of hunting. Shocking. I know. I am so predictable. BUT. I am extra fired up for several reasons…
perfect timing – weekend recap
You know… Sometimes things just work out exactly like they should. And when it comes to potential injury being avoided, that’s always a good thing in my book. With the exception of 1 or 2 friends (Reebs, love you, glad your foot is cast-less!), I am one of the most accident-prone people I know. Most of the time, it’s because I am being an idiot, but other instances prove [somehow] unavoidable.
