Texas Hunts with Remington Outdoor: Gators, Ducks, Hogs, & Fish

Back in September, I had the amazing opportunity to represent Women’s Outdoor News on an epic hunting trip, traveling to Texas with Remington Outdoor Company. The trip was the result of a contest last Christmas — The WON’s 12 Days of Christmas Giveaway  — the prize being a 2 to 3 day alligator hunt in Seadrift, Texas, with Castaway Lodge. Our giveaway winner was Melissa, a rising veterinarian from Washington State, and she would meet Remington rep Jessica and me in Texas to begin our adventure.

Upon arrival, we planned to start our search for alligators the following morning. Thanks to Hurricane Harvey’s copious amounts of flooding, our guides had no way of knowing just where those gators would be. We fully anticipated needing the full 3 days for each of us to tag out.

gear review: XTRATUF Riptide Water Shoe

I recently had the opportunity to review the Riptide performance water shoe by XTRATUF through Women’s Outdoor News, and I was really excited to put them to the test on my paddle board fishing adventures. XTRATUF specializes in waterproof, slip-proof footwear for all conditions, and the Riptide shoe [MSRP $79.99] is designed specifically for activities such as paddle board and kayak fishing. They are made from a breathable airmesh fabric with drainage holes on the sides and a slip-resistant bottom, and a bungee system replaces the laces so you don’t have to worry about them coming untied.

The Women’s Riptide comes in light blue, seen here, and in brown with pink detailing.

paddle board fishing with the WON

Yes, the time has come – summer on the water! I’ve been fishing a fair amount this summer, and was super excited to get a new Jimmy Styks board at the end of June – just in time for a long Independence Day weekend in Georgetown. You might have seen on Instagram that I recently partnered with Women’s Outdoor News as one of their columnists – woohoo! I was previously on their Featured Blogger list (and was beyond delighted to be included), but now an actual columnist for them??

Marathon

Hello, hello! I’m sorry I haven’t been around much on the blog lately – things have been sort of crazy, and there was a slight lull in my outdoor activities… But! Never fear. Deer season is under way (even though we’ve been in the 90’s down here in SC until yesterday), dove season is in full swing (more on that coming asap!), aaaand I spent a few days in the Keys to fish with Wuan’s family.

weekend recap: coordination + paddle board essentials

TGIT, friends! Who’s ready for the weekend? Its looking like a good one! This past weekend was the Georgetown Tarpon Tournament (remember this video?), and although I wasn’t able to fish it (Thanks, guys… Just kidding!), I was able to spend plenty of time on the water… Yep, you guessed it – fishing from the paddle board. Can you tell yet that I’m hooked?

weekend recap: Lake Jocassee

Hello, hello! How are y’all liking the new site? I’ve gotten lots of fantastic feedback, and I really appreciate it! Sorry things have been a little slow around here otherwise… BUT! Hunting seasons are about to start up again (2 days for deer season!!), so we’re sure to be extra busy for the next few months.

Today’s weekend recap is also (sort of) a #tbt. Two weekends ago we headed up to Lake Jocassee for the annual Rascal crew lake weekend, and it was a blast. The weekend was a blur, and we were able to do plenty of boating, dock hanging, and… paddle board fishing. YES!
