At long, long last, friends – it’s here! The Bright Side Outdoors 2015 – 2016 Duck Season Video, recapping all of our duck hunting adventures from November to January.
I’m not sure if my shooting has improved since last season, or if I just happened to catch more shots on film this time, but this one is a little more “actual duck hunting” and a little less “hunters going duck hunting,” if that makes any sense… In other words, get ready to see some ducks fall, and dogs retrieve!
Well, it is officially shed hunting season!
I always get so excited before this time of year, whether I end up finding – anything or not – and for the past two weekends, that’s what I’ve done. I’ve put in miles and miles of time in the woods hoping to stumble across a little (or big) piece of the elusive whitetail’s fallen horns.
Oh, and quail.
But! I completely forgot to tell you about seeing a deer in my last post. Crazy! In the middle of the duck hunt, I looked across to the bank of the pond and thought, ‘Wow, did someone bring a Great Dane as their bird dog?” No kidding – a nice sized doe was trotting past the pond. Odd, and the first time I’ve ever seen a deer while duck hunting.
The fun doesn’t stop there, either.
Or, that time I came eye to eye with a 10-point buck and free-handed it him at 90 yards.
Wait, what? I know. I KNOW. Let’s back up to the start of the weekend. Be prepared: this one’s a doozy.
Ahh! I totally dropped the ball and missed getting this post out to you last week. Deepest apologies, friends. But! Now is the time – the second part of our Big Sur adventure. It’s a good one.
Happy Friday, friends! I’ve been working on these photos for a bit, and am so excited to finally share with you. As you might have seen, the Mr. and I celebrated our 1 year wedding anniversary earlier this month (woohoo!) and to celebrate, we headed out to California for some Big Sur fun. We fell in love with the area last year, and were determined to make a trip back as soon as we could. What better excuse, right?
We stayed in Monterey again, with the intent of hiking as much of Big Sur as possible in our short time out there.
Hello, hello! I’m sorry I haven’t been around much on the blog lately – things have been sort of crazy, and there was a slight lull in my outdoor activities… But! Never fear. Deer season is under way (even though we’ve been in the 90’s down here in SC until yesterday), dove season is in full swing (more on that coming asap!), aaaand I spent a few days in the Keys to fish with Wuan’s family.
Hello hello! That probably sounds like I am more peppy than I actually am on this Monday… Mondays are the worst, huh? Can’t it already be Friday again? Ahh, such is life, I guess! Anyway – enough complaining. Not a whole lot has been happening on the hunting or fishing front lately, although it’s not for lack of trying! I did catch a little bass (below) on the pond behind our neighborhood, though. Better than nothing, right?
It’s Fridaayyyyyy! Is anyone else as excited as I am? I got spoiled with a 3 day work week last week, having just returned from Argentina. I think it’s safe to say that I have recovered, and there’s no denying that I miss it. But, alas, I think it’s time to move on (at least until I finished the video, then we can revisit!), and get turkey season underway.
