You know… Sometimes things just work out exactly like they should. And when it comes to potential injury being avoided, that’s always a good thing in my book. With the exception of 1 or 2 friends (Reebs, love you, glad your foot is cast-less!), I am one of the most accident-prone people I know. Most of the time, it’s because I am being an idiot, but other instances prove [somehow] unavoidable.

turkeys – 6, hollis – 0
Alas, turkey season has come to a close! Yet another season flew by without any success. Well, I shouldn’t say without success entirely. This was certainly my most active season of turkey hunting so far. How many times will I have 3 different pairs of gobblers strut just out of range in the course of 24 hours? Geeze!
so close
What. A. Weekend. As you might have seen, my Dad and I spent the weekend at Red Bluff Lodge in Allendale – hunting hunting hunting, and hoping for success with turkeys and hogs. And when I say hunting, I mean non-stop hunting. And, although it rained the whole weekend and we ultimately came away empty handed (which was a shock to us all, believe me), I have to say we had the most active turkey hunts I’ve ever experienced. Dad is in agreement – it was crazy.
an active unsuccessful morning
It’s almost the weekend! Who’s excited? Last weekend was my first turkey hunt of the season, and although we didn’t bag a tom, we had a great time and quite an eventful morning. We headed to Walterboro on Friday afternoon to our destination – Deux Cheneaux Plantation. It is such a beautiful place, and we made sure to get there a few hours before dark so that we could wander around and explore. There are dozens ofguineafowl roaming the grounds – and I’m telling you – those are the silliest birds I have ever seen (or heard). They provided entertainment all on their own. We also spotted a pretty little blue bird, and another, more ominous creature.

California, Part II – Big Sur
As I mentioned on Monday, Big Sur is officially my second favorite place ever, squeezing in just behind the coast of dear ol’ South Carolina. The terrain is totally different – think mountains that run into beaches that run into the bluest ocean – and the views are just incredible. If you ever get a chance, definitely get out to Big Sur.
California, Part I – Monterey & Carmel
At last! I have been dying for time to write this post. Things on the east coast were non stop once we made it back from the west coast, but I haven’t stopped talking about the trip. John and I headed out to Monterey, California in mid-March to visit two dear friends, Anne and Douglas who are currently living in that adorable town. Remember these two? How could you forget?! In fact, we actually planned this trip out to see them before any of us were positive they were moving. Chances were good, but not definite. What would have happened if they hadn’t made the move? Well, Anne and Doug were just going to purchase tickets and head out there with us for a few days of touristy travel. Win, win, huh?
